Eighty-Seven Personal Bests and More Record Qualifiers at the 2007 County Age Group Championships
Posted: March 2007
Despite a number of swimmers injured or sick Chelsea & Kensington mounted a strong challenge against some very tough opposition at this year’s County Championships. We had a record 23 qualifiers.
For some of the swimmers it was a very long two weekend’s work. Those swimmers who regularly train at the early morning sessions found that it pays off!
Take at look at some of the statistics:
- Patrick Jack
15 races, 15 PB’s, 8 medals & 2 Club Records; - Romane Bokkerink
9 races, 8 PB’s, 4 medals & 2 Club Records; - Katharine Spooner
11 races, 8 PB’s & 5 Club Records
...and that doesn’t include finals in the 100m events for them!
It was fantastic to see some of our first time qualifiers compete at this level – Andik Jashanica, Danielle Rudasingwa, Jessica Samuel, Nathaniel Wade & Wren Weber.
There were no less than 16 Club Records broken and 87 new personal best times proving that the training plan is well and truly working. There were some real milestones reached with Patrick Jack qualifying for 4 Scottish National Age Group events and Katharine Spooner in the 400 Free.
12 of the swimmers gained London Region Qualifying times.
At this level I tell the swimmers that to reach the top 8 is a real achievement and we had no less than 54 top eight positions.
What was particularly pleasing was to see swimmers qualify and compete at the ‘tough’ events – 200 Fly, 400 IM and 400 Free. In fact we had some of our greatest successes at these distances.
In the Under 13 category I vote Patrick Jack as the most outstanding swimmer of the Championships and Over 13 the title goes to Raymond Wade who has now joined the sub-1 minute 100m Freestyle Club!
You can view all the results and the records set at the event. For full club records, see our Club Records page.
Now we move into the 3rd phase of the annual training cycle attempting to peak for the Regional Championships
