New Masters relay team
compete in Barnet

Posted: January 2008

Chelsea & Kensington SC's newly established Masters relay team had their first outing at Barnet competing in the Mixed Freestyle 4 x 50m Relay in the 12-15 years age group.

The meet was preparation for the forthcoming National Masters Championships.

They had a recorded time of 2:03.15 — a great effort.

Mark Foster achieved a stunning 22.22 secs, setting a new World Age Group Record (subject to ratification). Following him was Emma Wilkinson (31.03) an ex-National GB swimmer who hadn't competed for 20 years.

Next up was Katy Fearne who had NEVER competed before in 37.22 secs and finally on anchor leg was another rookie competitor Simon Greenberg (32.68). It was just rewards for some very hard training recently for Katy and Simon (who is Communications & Public Affairs Director at Chelsea Football Club).

The team's efforts just go to show what can be achieved at any age with this level of application, determination and self-belief. In the run up to 2012 this is just the kind of example our athletes in all disciplines can take stock from.

"Of course I was impressed by Mark's achievement but what said it all for me was the gutsy performances by Katy, Emma and Simon especially given their lack of competitive experience," said the coach.

"I am confident the team will go under 2 minutes at Sheffield"

On a more general note we are trying to build the Masters section and are running ads in TNT magazine. So far the response has been modest but some have already started in earnest including Skye Hessen from Australia who is a World Champion in open water competition.

If you know of anyone (over 20 years old) who may be interested then give them our details.
