CKSC produces
two national qualifiers
Posted: January 2008
It's been many a year since the club had a national qualifier — then just like the No. 52 bus two come along at the same time!
Patrick Jack and Katharine Spooner both qualified for the Scottish National Championships at Tollcross, Glasgow. This meet has a substancial English club contingent.
Unfortunately, Katharine was unable to attend due to prior commitments. Patrick, however, arrived in some style.
He was due to swim on Friday 13th April. He arrived back from a yachting holiday in the Caribbean, complete with jet lag at 7.00am the day before.
After gathering his thoughts Patrick then flew to Glasgow at 5.00pm the same day ready for a 7.30am warm-up on the Friday morning! Now that's commitment!
Despite the jet lag and fatigue Patrick swam the 200m Freestyle and the 100m backstroke on the Friday in 2 new long course PB's of 2:28.13 and 1:20.16 respectively.
But with a good day's rest and super nutrition on the Saturday he saved his best until last.
In front of his family and friends he was determined to show them how the 200m should be swum.
Patrick went out like a rocket on the butterfly leg in 34.47 long course! The question was "When would he get the pay-back?"
Well it wasn't on the backstroke (43.48).
Then ouch! The breaststroke leg began to hurt (51.18) but he picked it up for one last gasp coming back in 38.84 on the free.
A new long course PB of 2:47.97.
