Squad Structures
& Objectives
Squad membership is determined by the Head Coach following consultation with assistant squad coaches and the Head Teacher. Factors such as gender, age, attitude, attendance, punctuality, training and competitive performance plus the ability to keep pace with a particular group will be considered.
In order to benefit from the planned programme of swimming development it is important that attendance is both frequent and regular with absences only as necessary or when advised. Punctuality is essential for the smooth and efficient running of the whole programme.
An annual training cycle is prepared for all groups.
A positive attitude towards training is important and it begins with the determination to start on time and to obtain full value out of the training time available. Swimmers are expected to remain for the duration of each training session. All swimmers are expected to respect their colleagues and not to distract others who wish to concentrate on their work. Swimmers should respect their coaches at all times and to listen when spoken to. Persistent latecomers or those displaying disruptive behaviour will be asked to step down from the squad.
The structure provides a number of progressively graded coaching and training groups clearly showing a recognisable ladder of progression for each swimmer's development along the guidelines of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD).
It should not be assumed that progress to the higher levels is automatic or just comes with age. The entry criteria will be strictly adhered to. Swimmers are expected to compete regularly as advised and in the appropriate level of competition.
All swimmers within the scheme will be trained for competitive swimming and on all strokes and distances.
