Top Squad

Normally swimmers are promoted from the Junior Squad Level 1 group or may be newcomers to the club from other sources who can demonstrate sufficient skills.

Members must be able to demonstrate competence on all four strokes and IM.

Squad Profile

This is the first of the senior squad with serious competitive involvement. Advanced stroke technique skills are taught. Swimmers are expected to attend dry land based session on a regular basis (13yrs & older). Swimmers will be introduced to the full range of complex training methods including anaerobic sets. Swimmers are expected to swim four times per week but advancement to the top level will be achieved by attending more sessions. There are six sessions per week available to members of this group. Swimmers will work upon improved co-ordination of all four competitive strokes and work on core strength endurance. Swimming volumes including medley work are in excess of 20kms per week. The correct in the water starts and turns are mandatory at all training sessions. Swimmers are introduced to goal setting sessions.

Swimmers will be expected to enter all external Licensed meets and open events. They will be prepared for qualification into District Championships.

As a guideline swimmers would be expected to reach full County Championship finals and to be close to full District qualifying times in 2 different strokes over 2 distances.

This group is equivalent to the LTAD model level known as Training to Train
